Uniting its unceasing drive for innovation with its commitment to protecting the environment, Elco was honored with a 2024 Newport For New Products™ Award. Presented at the Newport International Boat Show, the state-of-the-art Elco EP-250 inboard marine propulsion solution won in the Green Product category.
Elco and Lancer Craft collaborated to power a 20-foot Electric Legacy. Replacing the classic runabout’s V8 gas engine, the EP-250 provides exhilarating acceleration and impressive 35-mph top-end speed. With new solid-state batteries, the boat travels more than 30 miles at 30 mph, 40 miles at 20 mph and cruises an entire day and night at 7 mph. “Our cutting-edge motors and battery flexible design allow us to compete with gas or diesel pound-for-pound in size and performance,” said Dean Heinemann, Elco general manager.
The EP-250 inboard has four moving parts, making it far more reliable than traditional gasoline or diesel alternatives, yet offers comparable thrust. Fitting within a two-foot cube and weighing only 205 lbs., it’s a straightforward replacement for both OEM and refit applications. Another motor, Elco’s EP-40 that replaces gas or diesel engines up to 40 hp, also earned accolades from the judging panel.
With NMEA 2000® compatibility, accessing motor and battery data on a multifunction display is as easy as plugging it into the network
backbone. Alternatively, Elco offers the DASH companion mobile app that conveys a wide range of performance and system data.
“We’re exceptionally pleased and honored to receive this award,” Heinemann said. “Like all our inboard and outboard marine propulsion solutions, the EP-250 offers the power and performance mainstream boaters expect along with the benefits of electric propulsion.”
