Electric Motor Selection Guide

Elco’s electric boat motors are compact, reliable and more powerful than ever. Today’s advanced batteries also pack more power per pound, including new solid-state batteries that are half the weight and a third smaller than traditional wet-electrolyte lithium batteries. Going electric also brings practical benefits like zero exhaust emissions, intuitive operation, and greatly reduced noise, vibration and maintenance, so right now is a great time to switch to clean, green electric propulsion. Elco’s motors are engineered for straightforward installation, and NMEA 2000 compatibility ensures flexible integration to boats, batteries and systems.

Why Choose an Elco Electric Outboard Motor System?

Elco’s electric outboard motors increase your boating enjoyment. Our motors eliminate exhaust fumes as well as the smell, mess and safety concerns from having gasoline aboard. Highly efficient brushless PMAC motors mounted above the waterline in a traditional, time-tested outboard chassis decrease underwater drag and avoid worry over expensive repairs from inevitable underwater seal leaks. Our single-gear drive system provides smooth, seamless forward, neutral and reverse shifting within our electric motor, eliminating separate outboard gearing. Elco’s quiet, smooth operation — silent in neutral, whisper quiet at slow speed, and typically less than half as loud as combustion engines — facilitates conversation underway and enhances communication while docking. Elco’s motors are engineered for straightforward installation, and NMEA 2000 compatibility ensures flexible integration to boats, batteries and systems.

EP-20

Elco’s electric outboards are compact, reliable, and efficient. Our EP-20, for example, replaces 20 horsepower combustion engines yet weighs about the same as most 9.9-model gas outboards. Elco’s brushless PMAC motors and single-gear drive system maximize efficiency, minimize maintenance, and ensure quiet, smooth operation.

EP-9.9

MSRP: $3,450
Voltage: 48 Volts
Suggested Battery (Ah): 90Ah – 120Ah
Comparable HP: 9.9HP

Elco’s EP-9.9 utilizes the same outboard chassis as the EP-5, so it’s 20 percent lighter than similar gas outboards, which makes this motor easy to handle on or off the boat. 48-volt operation optimizes performance and efficiency, making the EP-9.9 a great choice for jon boats or pontoon boats on small lakes, particularly when lake restrictions prohibit larger motors. It also provides plenty of power for sailboats up to about 25 feet and 2,500 pounds. Remote or tiller control and long or short shaft lengths accommodate most boats. NMEA 2000 and Elco’s DASH app seamlessly connect to navigation displays as well as wireless and wearable screens.

EP-14

MSRP: $4,950
Voltage: 48 Volts
Suggested Battery (Ah): 130Ah – 225Ah
Comparable HP: 14HP

Elco’s EP-14 utilizes a larger chassis than the EP-9.9. This turns a bigger propeller that maximizes efficiency and provides extra torque when pontoon boats and larger sailboats need to overcome wind or waves while docking. 48-volt operation optimizes performance and efficiency. Remote or tiller control and long or short shaft lengths accommodate most boats. NMEA 2000 and Elco’s DASH app seamlessly connect to navigation displays as well as wireless and wearable screens.
