Elco NMEA 2000® Gateway

NMEA 2000 provides a seamless electrical backbone that allows various onboard systems to communicate with each other, all through one standardized connection. The Elco NMEA 2000 Gateway plays a key role in sending vital motor and battery data to compatible NMEA 2000 displays. With the Gateway, you can monitor important information like motor RPM, current draw, battery voltage, and state of charge, ensuring you stay informed about your boat’s performance at all times. Some displays also allow you to view additional notifications sent by the Elco system. Make sure you have the right equipment, and by checking that your display supports the necessary data, you can ensure that your Elco system will function at its best, giving you the best experience on the water.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT FOR ELCO NMEA 2000 CAPABILITIES

To fully take advantage of Elco’s NMEA 2000 features, you’ll need the following:

1. Elco NMEA 2000 Gateway: This comes pre-installed in new Elco outboard or inboard motors.

2. NMEA 2000 Starter Kit: Available at many marine electronics retailers (e.g., Garmin 010-12935-00 or equivalent). This kit allows you to connect your system to the NMEA 2000 network.

3. 12-Volt Power Source: You’ll need either a 12-volt battery system or a DC-to-DC voltage converter to power the system. These are the main options for providing the necessary power.

4. NMEA 2000-Compatible Display: Any compatible fish finder, chart plotter, or display that can show motor and battery data. Ensure that your display can interpret and show the information from the Elco system. Multiple displays can be installed by adding additional tees and drop lines.

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT DISPLAY COMPATIBILITY

It’s essential to understand that most displays won’t show all the hundreds of possible NMEA 2000 parameter groups. The data shown on your display will depend on the specific capabilities of the fish finder, chart plotter, or display you’re using.

To achieve full Elco integration, your display needs to support certain Parameter Group Numbers (PGNs):

▪ PGNs 127488 and 127489 for motor parameters (e.g., RPM).

▪ PGNs 127506 and 127508 for battery status and DC systems.

Before purchasing, verify that your display supports these PGNs—this information can typically be found in the product’s specifications or user manual. This ensures you’ll get all the motor and battery data you need, so you’re always aware of how your boat is performing.
